Indian home-appliance brand Kenstar has expanded its small domestic appliance portfolio with a new air fryer range covering more than 45 SKUs, one of the widest single-brand assortments announced in the Indian market this year. The line-up is split into five series — Star Chef Air Fryer cum Oven, Duo Feast Double Basket, Pure View All Glass, Daily Cook and Celebration Gifting — spanning capacities from 4.5 litres to 12 litres. Daily Cook targets everyday family cooking, Pure View uses a borosilicate glass bowl with a transparent chamber, Duo Feast carries dual baskets for simultaneous mains and sides, and Star Chef offers a larger multi-level oven format. The products are built on the brand's 360-degree Turbo Air and DuoCore Intelli Heating technology, support functions such as reheat, grill, toast, crispy fry, tandoor, dehydrate and bake, carry RoHS, ISI and ISO certification, ship with a two-year warranty, and are manufactured at Kenstar's Aurangabad facility for distribution through Amazon, quick-commerce platforms and modern trade.

Reading: the mainstream band has widened from a single 5–6L sweet spot to a 4.5–12L ladder, and dual-basket formats now occupy the middle of it — the exact zone a 4L+4L platform is built for.

The format mix matters more than the SKU count. Within the same month, Xiaomi introduced its Smart Double Stack Air Fryer 12L in Malaysia at RM899 (launch promo RM779), stacking two baskets vertically instead of side-by-side. The change lifted total capacity from 10L to 12L while cutting horizontal countertop footprint by roughly 35%, at 2,800W rated power, a 40°C–230°C temperature range, 14 preset modes and independent control of each basket with a Sync finish function. Two launches in two different markets point in the same direction: dual-basket has moved from a niche premium feature to a mainstream shelf expectation, and brand owners are now competing on how the second basket is packaged — vertically for compact urban kitchens, side-by-side for family-volume cooking.

Index basis: side-by-side 10L model = 100 on both axes. The vertical stack delivers +20% capacity at roughly 65% of the horizontal footprint — the configuration now winning shelf space in dense urban markets.

What this means for importers & distributors

  • Dual-basket is now baseline, not premium. Buyers in India and ASEAN are being trained on two-zone cooking; a single-basket-only range will be benchmarked as entry-level.
  • Visibility sells. Borosilicate glass bowls and transparent chambers are moving from niche to expected — confirm food-contact and thermal-shock documentation on the glass.
  • Footprint is a spec-sheet item. Vertical stacking wins in dense urban kitchens; side-by-side wins for family volume. Decide which story your market needs before tooling.
  • Check usable, not nominal, litres. A 12L headline can mean well under 8L of real basket volume once racks and grill trays are fitted.
  • Compliance clears the container. RoHS / ISI / ISO for India; CE, CB, GS, LFGB for Europe; SASO, SAA or PSE where applicable. The cheapest FOB quote is irrelevant if paperwork stalls at port.
  • After-sales decides the reorder. Two-year warranty expectations mean spare-part availability and service documentation must be agreed before the first shipment, not after.

For importers and distributors, the read-out is a specification checklist rather than a price point. Dual-basket and glass-bowl visibility are now baseline expectations in India and ASEAN; buyers should confirm 220–240V compatibility, real usable basket capacity rather than nominal litres, independent zone control with a synchronised finish, dishwasher-safe food-contact coating documentation, and local service support. Certification remains the gate rather than the unit cost — RoHS, ISI and ISO for India, CE/CB/GS and LFGB for Europe, plus SASO, SAA or PSE where applicable — because documentation, not the lowest FOB, is what decides whether a shipment clears and a repeat order follows.

EPRO note: our 4L + 4L dual-basket platform (220–240V, 1800W, 8-in-1) sits directly in the band these two launches are competing over — two independently controlled zones with a synchronised finish, at a footprint designed for compact urban kitchens in India, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
