Smeg — the Italian appliance maker long known for design-led retro kitchenware — has entered the standalone air fryer market for the first time with the AFC01 Dual Flavour Air Fryer, a 7-in-1 model that pairs a distinctive boxy silhouette with an optional steam function. Priced at GBP 199.95 direct from Smeg, it marks a notable move by a premium lifestyle brand into a category long dominated by utilitarian basket fryers.
Unlike most air fryers, the AFC01 cooks in a lift-out basket rather than a pull-out drawer, with a flip-open lid and a translucent top section lit by an internal light, so users can check progress without interrupting cooking. The exterior is a matte-finished square with clean lines and no bulky handles, available in four muted colours — Black, Storm Blue, Emerald Green and White — clearly aimed at buyers who want the appliance on permanent display rather than hidden in a cupboard.
Functionally, the AFC01 offers seven cooking presets and two modes. The Crispy mode works like a conventional air fryer, while the Juicy+Crispy mode draws cold water from a top reservoir and releases it as fine droplets during cooking to keep delicate foods such as fish and chicken moist inside while crisping the outside. The basket is dishwasher-safe.
The launch follows Smeg's February 2026 MOC02, a microwave, air fryer, fan oven and grill combo with multi-stage cooking. Together they signal a clear premiumization and design-forward direction in the air fryer category — one that values aesthetics, colour choice and gentle steam cooking alongside raw performance.
For EPRO and B2B buyers serving design-conscious markets across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, the AFC01 illustrates where premium air fryer demand is heading: steam-assisted, attractively styled, multi-colour appliances built for the countertop, not the cupboard.
